Workers are the backbone of every society, whether in Nigeria, United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada and other countries around the world. More so, domestic and household workers whose jobs provide support, life balance and serves as a springboard for the aspirations & careers of their bosses & employers to grow and thrive, whilst helping them hold down the home front.

We often hear on social media and offline platforms of how some domestic workers carry out terrible deeds on their employers, and some employers who also do same to workers. But there are workers who loyal , hardworking, dedicated and are giving their best to their employers. And employers who are wealthy , influential, widely traveled, have achieved so much in their lives , yet continue to treat their domestic/ grassroots workers in a genuinely humane way in the privacy of their homes where eyes and media buzz rarely get to.

This tells us that in the midst of all the paparazzi, media buzz and philanthropy , if you want to know a genuinely humane politician , governor, governor’s wife , president, senator, doctor , lawyer , popular philanthropist , Pastor, Pastor’s wife, Imam. Imam’s wife and others, look unto how they treat their domestic / grassroots workers in the privacy of their homes where public eyes rarely gets to.

Coralworker.com has singled out notable and exemplary Nigerians, high net worth individuals (HNIs) in Lagos, Abuja, Porthacourt, Kaduna, Edo Bayelsa and other states in the country who have embodied these traits and more, and have presented the award for “ Genuinely Humane Employer”, to honour them for their humanity, commitments and efforts. And to implore them to remain steadfast in encouraging and uplifting these grassroots workers in Nigeria and beyond.

Employers such as High Chief Alh. Habeeb Okunola (MON), MD TILT Group/habeeb Okunola Foundation, who has been supporting and providing resources for free training events, empowerment, sensitization and more to help grassroots workers to gain and sustain their employment, thus keeping a large number of them out of the poverty loop.

Chief and Mrs Okonkwo , power couples in the oil and gas sector in Lekki Lagos Nigeria. Both are a match made in heaven with regards to their love for humanity and impact.

They are both genuinely and personally vested in the daily lives of their domestic/household workers.

They treat their household workers like family, very firm on their boundaries but go out of their way to ensure that all their workers are comfortable and paid well.

According to the Okonkwos, yearly salary upward reviews are made in line with inflation in the Nigerian economy. ‘ These workers and their families buy garri, rice, palm oil, butter , bread in the same economy like us, and I know the prices of today and yesterday are not the same”.

They check up on their former workers and reprimand them for deviating from their life plans as earlier discussed with them, take some of them along on vacations abroad. So much that their domestic workers had to say.

And the best of it all, they never verbally or mentally abuse them despite their wealth and high standing in the society.

Alhaji Najib Waziri. is the MD of a law firm in Abuja and the son of a very prominent politician in Nigeria. Who instructs his live-out household workers to register in online or part-time schooling and actually pays for it. He is personally vested in the lives of his workers and their personal growth year on year.

Buys clothing annually for his workers, pays stipends to their spouses directly monthly, Pays for standard health insurance for them and their families on an annual basis.

These wonderful Nigerians and others who have opted to receive awards openly and anonymously, are the reasons why Nigerian domestic workers would be encouraged to continue putting their best.

With 130 Million Nigerians living in multi-dimensional poverty, a lot of grassroots/poor individuals especially women and young girls are looking for immediate respite from poverty and hunger via jobs that will not require special skills, education, bureaucracy or encumbrances in order to financially provide 3 square meals for themselves and their families, while they make projections for long term career goals and ambitions. These poor individuals usually look for jobs as nannies, cooks, housekeepers, drivers, home maids, stewards, local house-girls and house-boys, house managers, personal assistants and more.

Coralworker.com is a social enterprise platform that connects employers to thoroughly screened and documented workers at the click of a button, from the comfort of their homes.

We have placed over 10,000 domestic workers in jobs across different states in the federation. We provide standard paying jobs with base salaries of N50,000, up to N500,000 or more depending on the job category applied for.

We do not charge workers a dime for the use of our platform to secure jobs or deduct any part of their salaries. 100% of workers’ salaries are paid direct to them monthly by their direct employers.

We aim to onboard up to 10 million domestic workers within the next 5 years unto our platform, thereby reducing poverty, hunger, provide standard jobs, training, financial literacy, life-planning skills and more to help reduce the dire situations and desperations that these workers encounter, that drives them to extremes . (SDGs 1, 2, 5 & 8)

We also aim to reduce the number of domestic workers in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa that end up embarking on dangerous and life altering trips to work as domestic workers in some foreign countries abroad, thereby exposing them to human traffickers and all kinds of evil.

We also want to use this opportunity to honour and thank all employers of domestic workers across Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa that are genuinely humane to their household and informal workers, and to implore them to continue to do so.

In the same vein, to also encourage domestic workers to continue to be loyal, hardworking and remain focused in discharging their duties to their employers.

To not fall to the level of desperation and greed that is inherent in some bad household workers/youths today, which 100% of the time ends up destroying their lives in the long run.
